5 Essentials for your Hospital Bag

Here are 5 genuinely essential items to pack in your hospital bag:

  1. Important documents
    • ID, insurance card, hospital paperwork, birth plan (if you have one)
  2. Comfortable clothes
    • Loose robe, nursing-friendly pajamas, going-home outfit, warm socks/slippers
  3. Toiletries
    • Toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, lip balm, hair ties, deodorant
    • Lip balm is especially helpful because hospital air can feel dry.
  4. Baby basics
    • (2) Going-home outfits (in case of accident), car seat installed before discharge, baby blanket if desired
  5. Postpartum & comfort items
    • Phone charger (extra-long cord is best), snacks, water bottle, nipple cream, nursing bra/pads

Nice extras if you have room:

  • Sound machine
  • Flip-flops for shower
  • Simple makeup/skincare if it helps you feel refreshed

A small rolling bag or duffel is usually enough for a 1–2 day stay.
